Heel pain is a common problem we treat at Feetology Podiatry Centre. Many of our patients report that they have pain in the heel on rising in the morning, or after getting up from sitting at the end of the day. This pain often is ignored and can progress to become painful for longer periods through the day. This is when it can start to make life really uncomfortable. The pain can get to a point where people are no longer able to exercise, play with their children or even begin to interfere with their work.
There are a few different conditions that lead to heel pain. In adults, the most common cause is plantar fasciitis (heel spurs). Also Achilles’ Tendonitis and referred pain can occur in this area. A common cause of heel pain in active children is Severe’s Disease.
Some of the factors that can contribute to heel pain include:
Increased activity
Structural abnormalities such as flat feet, high arches and leg length inequality
Obesity
Trauma
Improper footwear
Local or systemic disease
